Everyone Cool I Know Has Done a 10-Day Vipassana

Pretty much everybody that I know who is super cool has done a 10-day Vipassana meditation course.

I've noticed a pattern. The people I meet who are the most present, the kindest, the least rattled by life: when I ask, a surprising number of them have sat a 10-day Vipassana course. Ten days of silence. No phone, no reading, no talking. Just you, your breath, and the sensations of your body.

What the course gives you

Vipassana doesn't ask you to imagine anything, visualize anything or control your breath. You simply observe. You watch sensations arise and pass away, moment after moment, and you slowly learn that you are not your reactions to them.

That's the gift: the tools you need to free yourself from suffering. Not a belief system. A skill.

Then it's up to you

After the course, the practice is in your hands. And it leaves you with a question worth sitting with: how much suffering are you willing to put up with? And is it all worth it?

I believe everybody should do a 10-day course at least once. If you're not ready for ten days of silence yet, there are gentler doors in: a 1:1 coaching session, a Sunday ecstatic dance, or even an improv class.
