I've been looking for a movement that's close to an inflection point. I thought it was meditation. A lot of people meditate, but it doesn't spread quickly. Each person has their own journey to meditation and their own experience of it.
I still believe everybody should do a 10-day Vipassana course. It gives you the tools to free yourself from suffering. But my mission right now is to bring ecstatic dance to an exponential inflection point.
Vipassana you can dance to
Ecstatic dance is a lot like Vipassana, but far more accessible. You're listening to music. You can interact with people, but without words. Most of it is an internal, individual experience: the music is there, and you're simply aware of your body, your breath, your thoughts and your movements.
Why it spreads
Ecstatic dance touches people in a special way. It touches their hearts. Many of the people who have that transformative experience are already primed to lead: yoga teachers, therapists, space holders. It naturally leads to organizing your own dance. And if you move to a new city, you look for an ecstatic dance there. If there isn't one, you start one.
This has been a growing movement for many years. With the help of AI (ticketing, promotion, volunteer coordination and host playbooks that used to take a team), we can accelerate its growth curve into a hockey stick.
If that sounds like you, start your own ecstatic dance, or come dance with us at Ecstatic Dance: Suburbia.
